One million jabs per day?!? Freehab provides a real boost to those left behind.
“Get boosted now!” That was the key message that the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson gave when he addressed the nation at 8pm on Sunday evening 12th December 2021.
In an attempt to protect the nation from the rapidly spreading Omicron Covid-19 variant, the PM stated, “We must urgently reinforce our wall of vaccine protection to keep our friends and loved ones safe.”
To achieve this, The Government has set a target of 500,00 booster vaccinations per day, plus first and second doses, in order to ensure that all eligible adults in England have had a third dose by the end of December.
But this does come at a cost. The Government has once again called on primary care services to prioritise the delivery of the vaccine. In order to do this the PM has said family doctors can postpone some of their other work, such as certain routine medical appointments, like MSK appointments.
So where does this leave patients with musculoskeletal health concerns?
Musculoskeletal conditions have a huge impact on health. The pain and fatigue caused by arthritis and related MSK conditions result in a substantial reduction in quality of life. 21% of years lived with illness and disability (YLD) in the UK population are associated with MSK conditions (source). These conditions make up around 33% of GP consultations and 40% of people say they see their GP as the main person that supports them with musculoskeletal conditions (source).
