About.

Freehab is a social enterprise, meaning it exists to provide a service to the community, rather than make a profit. That’s why we offer our service for free.

Our story.

Our mission and vision.

Freehab was founded in 2021 and started with a mission of providing free-to-access online physiotherapy and rehabilitation for people’s injuries, aches and pains - removing the financial barriers to accessing care. To do that, we needed an innovative model that nobody had tried before, one that was true to the values of the NHS, but had the flexibility and ease of access offered by the private sector. The motivation was not driven by profit; Freehab does and always will operate on a not-for-profit basis, the motivation was to provide a high-quality, online, honest, evidenced-based and easy-to-use service. Our vision for the future is one where everybody can invest in their health, regardless of their financial circumstances, so they can lead a happy and active life without limits.

The need for Freehab.

The need for Freehab was very clear:

  1. Waiting lists for NHS musculoskeletal services are too long.

  2. The cost of accessing private care is too high for many people.

  3. There are 20 million people in the UK with a musculoskeletal condition.

This leaves many people struggling without any help, and that’s where Freehab comes in. We sit perfectly in the middle of the NHS and private offerings, by giving people the easy and quick access of the private sector, combined with being free like the NHS.

How is it free?

You would not be blamed for wondering “What’s the catch?” and “Why is it free?” Many people ask the same question. The short answer is that there is no catch, our testimonials will speak to that. We set Freehab up because we genuinely believed there was a better way to deliver services that nobody else was doing.

Freehab is run completely by volunteers, including all of our clinicians and our board. We all give our time outside of our other work to help the Frehab mission. You can be assured that there's no compromise on quality with Freehab. Our clinical team are all qualified, registered and insured with their respective professional bodies, and they offer the same high standards of care as they do in their day jobs within the NHS, Military, sports teams, and private practices.

Freehab is funded in three ways:

  1. The support of organisations that have partnered with us.

  2. Donations from people who use Freehab.

  3. Grants and other sources of funding.

Our service is free and always will be, but to ensure we can be sustainable and help more people in the future, we offer people who use Freehab the option to make a donation. This can be of any amount they choose. Currently, around 10% of users make a donation to support our work. All of the money we do generate goes back into the service to ensure we can help more people.

A service you can trust.

The Freehab team is one you can trust. We have registered physiotherapists and sport rehabilitators, all of whom have extensive qualifications and experience, and give up their time to support our work. In the future, we hope. to expand by welcoming Chiropractors and Osteopaths to the team who can add to our broad range of expertise. Meet the team here.

The future.

We hope to reach as many people as possible so that we can truly have an impact on people’s health. We’ll continue to recruit volunteers so that we can expand our capacity and do work to actively reach communities that most need our help. If you’re an organisation or healthcare professional who would like to work with Freehab, please get in touch!

Our values.

Equity.

We believe everybody should be able to access the health services they need, when they need it, regardless of their financial circumstances. Our business model provides an equitable service that levels the playing field.

Quality.

We’re committed to providing the highest quality online service to our patients. We do this by having suitably qualified clinicians who share our vision and values, and by partnering with organisations that support the delivery of our mission.

Activity.

Activity for health is our key message. But we’re not just interested in physical activity. We’re taking positive action on social issues and giving people the knowledge and power to invest in their health.
